Kala Chana (also known as Yellow Gram and Desi Chana) is a dark brown coloured chick pea. It has a tougher outer coat, unlike its lighter counterpart, and delivers a delicious crunch with a beautiful nutty flavour. It is popularly used in cuisines across the Indian sub-continent and the Middle East. As well as the nutritional benefits, Kala Chana is versatile and works particularly well when used to make a vast selection of Indian dishes and snacks including Kala Chana Curry, Pani Puri and Chaat.
